Compound Bows

Compound bows are hand-drawn, hand-held bows with a mechanical component that reduces the draw weight and increases the speed of the arrow. Cables and cams (or pulleys) ease the draw and reduce the bow’s holding weight (called let-off). These vary from traditional bows in that they have these added mechanisms, and are often heavier. Depending on your skill level, shooting interest, capabilities, and simple preferences, a compound bow could be the right type of bow.  We have bows for all shooters, including beginning archers, youth, experienced Pro shooters, hunters and bowfishing enthusiast. Want a specific bow model? If not in stock we can special order from the manufacturer.   Not sure? Just ask our helpful associates for advice and assistance.

NexGen Archery carries a variety of compound bows and accessories from major manufacturers.

Recurve and Longbow

Recurve and Longbows are traditional styled bows that have no mechanical element, and rely entirely on the shooter’s strength and capability when drawing the bow.  See below for differences in the two.  Still not sure what to choose?  Check with our helpful associates for advice and assistance.

Recurve bows have curved limbs at the ends of the bow that point out toward the target with a number-three shape.  This helps to deliver more energy to the arrow, increasing its speed.  Recurve bows are popular in the Olympics and other competitive events.

Longbows are characterized by a long single piece of wood with a string and are differentiated from the recurve bow by shape.  They have a straight grip and a half-moon shape with greater depth than a recurve, but thinner width.  The tips do not curve away from the archer

NexGen Archery stocks and can special order a variety of traditional bows and accessories from major manufacturers.
